Imam Ibn Battah authored Al-Ibanah As-Sughra after observing the people of his time growing distant from the true Sunnah, the widespread nature of innovation in the religion, and people clinging to misguided, ignorant individuals as imams and leaders in the religion. He took to authoring this book with the intent of clarifying the methodology and creed of the Salaf, and of clinging to the Sunnah while refraining from innovations and its people.

A powerfully-packed compilation containing over 200 narrations (aḥādīth and āthār), summarised by a well-travelled Imam of the 4th century Hijrī (9th century CE), now translated to English. The full translation of this work spans four volumes; this is Volume 1, covering "The Ahadith and Narrations that Indicate the Compulsory Nature of Clinging to the Sunnah, Loving the Sahabah, and the Dispraise of Innovation and Splitting in the Religion."
